".......Thousands of people with irritable bowel syndrome will be offered hope by research showing that hypnotherapy eases the condition in sufferers.
Prof Roland Valori, a gastroenterologist at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, in Gloucester, said hypnotherapy had been a success with his patients. In a podcast for Frontline Gastroenterology, a new medical journal, he said 90 of his first 100 patients treated with hypnotherapy showed significant improvement.
In four out of 10 the condition cleared up completely. The rest said they felt an improvement.
Irritable bowel syndrome is a long term disorder of the digestive system causing pain, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation.
Hypnotherapy puts the patient in an altered state of consciousness. The therapist can then help patients to cope better...."
