Frequently asked Questions

What can I expect when I make contact?  Amanda or Angela will have a  telephone conversation with you in order to get essential details from you. You can  then arrange an appointment to suit you to discuss your presenting issue(s) in more detail with either Angela or Amanda.
First Meeting - aspired hypnotherapy offers you a FREE initial consultation lasting up to 30 minutes where your therapist will take a detailed case history from you. We will explain to you the process of hypnosis and allay any misconceptions you may have and devise a treatment plan for you after which you may immediately begin your initial treatment session if desired (allow for a further 60 minutes).
Subsequent Sessions - In the following sessions we aim to deepen the therapeutic effect of the hypnotherapy. At aspired hypnotherapy we will help you to build on the positive effects of the hypnosis by freeing your ability to help yourself through the innate healing capacity of your mind. We always prioritise your needs and continually work on feedback and structure the therapy around you. (Subsequent sessions last approx 60 minutes)
Can anyone be hypnotised? Yes, most people can be hypnotised provided they want to be. No one can be hypnotised against their will.
How does hypnotherapy work? Hypnosis is a  relaxed and focused state of mind brought about by the use of a set of relaxation techniques. It enhances your concentration and increases your responsiveness to positive suggestions in order to make the beneficial changes that you wish to make.
Will I be asleep?  No, contrary to popular opinion, you are not asleep during hypnosis. You are fully aware of what is happening and what is being said to you. You give the impression of being asleep because your body is totally relaxed, but "hypnotic sleep" bears no resemblance to normal sleep.
Are there any side effects? No, there are absolutely no negative side effects from being hypnotised. It is a perfectly safe and natural way of using your own inner resources to reorganise your thoughts and behaviours to bring about beneficial change. Most clients enjoy the mental and physical relaxation they experience. After the session you will feel very relaxed and it is completely safe to drive, operate machinery or anything else.
Will I be out of control?   No, when in a hypnotic trance you will have a feeling of profound relaxation whilst remaining in complete control of your thoughts and actions during every session.   If there is something that you prefer to keep private, then that is your choice.
Is all information and personal detail kept confidential? Yes. We are bound by both the Hypnotherapy Society's and Hypnotherapy Standards Council's strict Code of Ethics and Confidentiality and value confidentiality very highly.
How many sessions will I need? This will vary from person to person and to some extent will depend on the nature of the problem and how long it has been there - typically between one and six sessions. (anti-smoking - one session)
I have a problem and I am not sure if hypnotherapy can help, how do I find out? You can contact Amanda or Angela who will listen, assess and advise you. The range of issues that can be treated through hypnotherapy is comprehensive and only some have been mentioned on this web site. Feel free to contact aspired hypnotherapy
